Introduction to Jewellery Desigining--
Designing jewellery is a unique art and is different than other art related field. At present jewellery designing shows a promising career prospect in India.
People who are fond of jewellery ,Jewellery Designs or have knowledge about various jewelleries and in addition to that have a creative mind can explore the career prospects in jewellery designing. Imaginative people with a penchant towards jewellery and designing may find this career fulfilling and satisfying. Jewellery designing is an art and appropriate training is required to master this skill. Jewellery designing, manufacturing and trading has been an integral part of the human society since five thousand years and more. Our country is world renowned for its jewellery and jewellery designs since ancient times.
Earlier a few select families ran the business of jewellery designing and jewellery making. Moreover, the technical knowledge associated with this trait was kept a closely guarded secret and passed on from generation to generation. However, all that has changed. The current boom experienced by this industry has commercialised this art and opened new boundaries for job seekers.
Jewellery today is more of a fashion statement or you can say a reflection of who you are. In this context, different personalities and different senses of style have revolutionised the traditional gold jewellery and modernised it to the taste of the new era. Your grandma's old jewellery may be treasured and pricey heirlooms, but they simply do not hold a candle to the existing styles being worn. Jewellery these days is exclusive and contemporary. "People are very image cognizant. They don't want jewellery as a representation of financial security but to make a fashion statement and also as trends wear that suits different occasions."
Jewellery Designing Industry--
On the back of a sizzling growth of the organised jewellery industry, striking job openings and exciting entry-level salaries, many specialised institutes catering to the industry have mushroomed in the recent past. It's a fine era to consider jewellery designing as a career preference.
India is the largest gems and jewellery market in the world (the domestic market is Rs 63,000 crore), but largely in the unorganised sector with a significant focus on gold. With the entry of big players like Tanishq, Swarovski, DeBeers, D'- damas, the shifting thrust on gems and stones rather than pure gold is giving a big push to the organised gems and jewellery industry.
Now-a-days jewellery designing as a career is flourishing like never before. This profession is not only rewarding but also available for anyone who has a creative bend of mind. People these days have become very image conscious and the want for jewellery is no more a symbol of financial security but a trendy fashionable wear that can go well with different occasions.
Jewellery designing is a creative art that combines knowledge of conceptualising jewellery design and then manufacturing various jewellery products. Many institutes in India offer long-term, short-term and even distance learning programs in jewellery designing.
The study in this field teaches you basic skills like stone cutting, engraving and polishing and testing the quality of precious metals and gems. Special skills like electroplating, metal colouring, anodising, enamelling and stone setting are also taught to students of jewellery designing.
There are many jewellery designing courses available all over India. For joining a diploma course, you have to complete your graduation in any field and for short-term courses the minimum qualification can either be class 10 or a 10 + 2. It is advisable to pursue a program in jewellery design, BDes, from a renowned design school such as National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) or National Institute of Design (NID).
Job Profile:
Jewellery designers prepare sketches - by hand or on the computer - to conceptualise the design. After consulting with the customer or the manufacturing team, designers fashion detail drawings, a structural model, computer simulations, or a full-scale prototype.
Computer models allow superior effortlessness and flexibility in exploring a number of design alternatives, thus reducing design costs and cutting the time it takes to deliver a product to market.
Designs are created on regular or floral patterns and then generate forms by connecting different structures together. The range of raw materials is exhaustive - from economical and easily available stuff like paper, wood, terracotta, jute, to highly priced Swarovski crystals!
